Images of Nebulae - A nebula - Latin for cloud - pl. Nebulae - is an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen plasma. Originally nebula was a term used to denote any large astronomical object, including galaxies (for such as the Andromeda Nebula was referring to the Andromeda Galaxy before galaxies were discovered by Edwin Hubble). Nebulae often have regions suitable for the formation of stars, as in the Eagle Nebula. One of these regions can be seen in the famous image of NASA, Pillars of Creation. In these regions, the formation of gas, dust and other matters which are brought together to form a larger mass, attract further matter to reach the size necessary to become a star. It is believed that the residual material can act to form the planets and other bodies of the planetary system.
